Ameresco Names Mark Wilhelm as Corporate Director of Sustainability and Climate Neutrality Initiatives
Industry veteran offers wealth of sustainability experience and a proven track record working with customers to achieve aggressive climate neutrality goals.
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC), a leading energy efficiency and renewable energy company, announced today that Mark Wilhelm has been named Ameresco’s Corporate Director of Sustainability and Climate Neutrality Initiatives. As a subject-matter expert on current industry practices, he will function as Ameresco’s sustainability liaison cross-company, champion best practices for customers, and leverage expert knowledge from within Ameresco and a network of experts to develop and implement projects and strategies.

Throughout his career Mr. Wilhelm has advocated for customers through a wide variety of initiatives and has been instrumental in assisting them to achieve their goals. In 2013, he joined Ameresco as the Director, Climate Neutrality Initiatives. The same year, Ameresco was selected by Arizona State University (ASU) to be its strategic business partner to achieve its goal of climate neutrality by 2025 (2035 including fleet). Mr. Wilhelm is leading Ameresco’s team, which includes Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), to define and implement sustainability strategies that will achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions and climate neutrality for ASU.

Mr. Wilhelm has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, including over 20 years of focus on energy-efficient, sustainable building design and operations. Previous to Ameresco, he was a founding principal of Green Ideas, Inc., one of the nation’s premier green building consulting firms. Before that, Mr. Wilhelm held leadership roles with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Arizona Public Service (APS). He has participated in the greening of over 100 sustainable developments, including some of the most prestigious projects in the Southwest. He has provided sustainability consulting services to Fortune 500 companies including BASF, Intel, General Dynamics, and Oldcastle and has managed LEED certification efforts for over 70 projects nationwide.
Mr. Wilhelm received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his Master of Science in environmental planning from Arizona State University. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Certified Carbon Reduction Manager (CRM), and a LEED Accredited Professional, Operations and Maintenance (LEED AP O+M).
