Ameresco Chosen to Help North Carolina State University Meet 30 Percent of Peak Demand from Onsite Generation

$56 million steam plant project will add 11 MW of new electric generation and new cogeneration equipment, providing $6.5M in annual energy savings for public university

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- North Carolina State University has contracted with Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC), an independent energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions company, to implement a number of significant energy conservation measures at two campus central utility plants. The project focuses on improving the reliability and efficiency of campus central steam and chilled water generation.

Most significantly, this $56 million energy saving performance contract will add cogeneration equipment that will provide 11 MW of electric generation and 100,000 lbs/hr of steam generation at one facility. The other facility is designed to receive upgrades that will provide for another 300,000 lbs/hr of new more efficient steam generating capacity. Implementation of all the planned energy conservation measures at the two central utility plants is expected to provide the university $6.5 million in average annual energy savings.
