| Description of Business | DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS Ameresco, Inc. (including its subsidiaries, the “Company,” “Ameresco”, “we,” “our,” or “us”) was organized as a Delaware corporation on April 25, 2000. We are a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers reduce costs, enhance resilience, and decarbonize to net zero in the global energy transition. Our comprehensive portfolio includes implementing smart energy efficiency solutions, upgrading aging infrastructure, and developing, constructing, and operating distributed energy resources. We provide solutions, both services and products, and also sell certain solar photovoltaic (“solar PV”) equipment and have completed projects that reduce energy use and deliver diversified generation solutions to Federal, state and local governments, utilities, educational and healthcare institutions, housing authorities, and commercial and industrial customers. Headquartered in Framingham, MA, we have more than 1,500 employees providing local expertise in North America and Europe.
We are compensated through a variety of methods, including: 1) direct payments based on fee-for-services contracts (utilizing lump-sum or cost-plus pricing methodologies), 2) the sale of energy from our energy assets, and 3) direct payment for solar PV equipment and systems.
